Shelly Reeves Obituary

A brief summary of her life as remembered and written by her husband

Shelly fell asleep in the Lord Jesus on the morning of January 14, 2021 after a very sudden but brief illness.

She was born in Bridgeport, Texas on January 15, 1975.  She lived all of her elementary, middle school and high school years in Keeter, Texas and attended Springtown ISD, where she participated in cheerleading, student council, and sports.  She played in three state volleyball tournaments.

After graduating high school in 1993, Shelly attended Abilene Christian University and earned her degree in education by the end of 1996.  While in Abilene, in 1995, she married her middle school sweetheart, Kyle.

About a year after their wedding, Kyle and Shelly moved to San Antonio, Texas where Kyle began dental school and Shelly completed her student teaching and began teaching 7th grade science at Dwight Middle School for the South San Antonio ISD.

By the year 2000, they had welcomed their first son, Will, into the world, and moved to Azle, Texas where they began Kyle’s dental practice.  Two years later, they welcomed their second son, Wyatt, into their presence.  Shelly focused on being a stay at home mom while their sons were in the pre-kindergarten years.  After both of their boys began school, Shelly became Kyle’s dental office manager, where she continued until her passing.

By the spring of 2003, they had built their dream home on the side of a hill overlooking the south end of Bridgeport Lake, in Runaway Bay, Texas, and also began worshiping, working and serving with the Decatur Church of Christ, in Decatur, Texas.

Shelly’s routine has been very consistent with people in her life, and can be summarized in three words: service to others.  She was servant to her husband and kids at home and school.  She was a servant to her family in many endeavors and needs.  She was a servant to the staff and patients at the dental office.  She was a servant to her church family in Decatur.  She was servant to the children and staff at Hacienda of Hope Children’s Home in Ecuador.

Shelly’s life on this earth can further be summarized by another word: doer.  She was an instrument of action, a person who acts rather than merely talking or just thinking.  When she saw a need, she took action, solved problems, and met the need usually behind the scenes and preferred to perform her acts of service stealthily and discreetly, which is why she became the go to person for her church in audio, video and technology.  Kyle liked to say that she was the “glue that held my office together” because she was the to go to person for most general problem solving and getting things done.  Other than actual dental problems that Kyle and the clinical staff dealt with, if there was a problem or issue, it was usually Shelly that acted in finding the solution, again, often behind the scenes, out of the spotlight—the way she liked it.

Shelly was preceded in death by her pawpaw Leroy Meeks; pawpaw Herman Dodd; granny, Elizabeth Dodd; father-in-law, Larry Reeves; granddad-in-law, Willie Rauls

Shelly is survived on this earth by her husband of over 25 years, Kyle Reeves; son and daughter-in-law, Will and Morgan Reeves; son, Wyatt Reeves; mom and dad, Jack and Brenda Meeks; sister and brother-in-law, Shawn and Billy Leath; nieces, Amanda Goen, Shelby Leath, and Maddi Moreno; nephew, Jake Moreno; mother-in-law, Traunsa Reeves, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vicki and Anton Russell; grandma, Joy Meeks; grandmother in law, Abbie Rauls; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Shelly is and will be greatly missed by those of us left and still on our earthly journeys.  But because of our faith in the work done by Jesus of Nazareth at the cross to provide forgiveness for our sins and at the grave to provide ultimate victory over death, we just temporarily say good-bye.  Really, because of Jesus and Shelly’s faith and obedience in him, what we’re really saying to Shelly is, “see you later.”
