Nancy Carol Ballard
1947 - 2022
On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, our precious and cherished mother, Nancy Carol Springer Ballard, left this world and joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in Heaven. She was surrounded by her loving family in her home in Granbury, TX. She was born April 19, 1947, to her late parents, T.E. Jack Springer and Adelaide Kershner Springer in Paris, Texas.
From a very young age, she wanted nothing more than to be a nurse. After graduating from R.L. Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas in 1965, Nancy pursued her dream. In May of 1969, she graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
Early in her nursing career, her expert skills in organizing and preparing care plans led her to being offered a position as a nursing instructor at Tarrant County Community College where she taught from 1972-1979. During this time, Nancy furthered her education at Texas Women’s University and graduated in 1979 with a Master of Education.
In late 1972, she met her soul mate and the father of her children, Herb Ballard, at the University Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. Very shortly after meeting, they fell in love after looking into each other’s eyes for hours, not a word spoken. Just a few short months later, they married on April 13, 1973. Their marriage honored the Lord, and they stayed committed through all the ups and downs, right to the very end.
On March 21, 1975, their firstborn son, Paul David Ballard, was born. Their second son, Timothy Michael Ballard, was born on February 28, 1980. Their youngest child and only girl, Deborah Elizabeth Ballard, was born on October 16, 1981.
After many successful years teaching and raising her three children, Nancy decided to embrace her entrepreneurial drive, and she and Herb started a home health agency in 1993 in Gainesville, Texas. The business expanded, where a second branch was opened in Tyler, Texas in 1996.
Ultimately, she felt led to return to her teaching career, first at Tyler Junior College and then on to the University of Texas at Tyler. While teaching at UT, Nancy pursued her education even further, earning a Master of Science in Nursing in 2008. Her teaching and compassionate nursing skills touched countless lives, her work contributing to a thriving nursing community.
Nancy always had a desire to give back to the community and to provide to those in need. She volunteered as a nurse at Bethesda Healthcare, a free and reduced cost clinic for the underserved, from 2007 to 2014. Nancy’s faith, determination, brilliance, hard work, and resilience impacted countless lives – indeed, her legacy will far outlast her time on this earth.
Nancy’s achievements throughout her career were impressive by any standard. Remarkably, her contributions and accolades were achieved despite her suffering from profound hearing loss from the age of 3. In 2007, she had an epiphany regarding her health and lost 150 pounds through diet, exercise, and healthy life choices. Nancy loved taking scenic walks and had a special admiration for the Rockies and Smoky Mountains. She loved porcelain dolls and built an impressive display of her collection. Nancy found joy in worshiping through music and loved The Gaither Vocal Band, Guy Penrod, and many others.
She’s rejoicing in heaven after reuniting with her parents; brother, Ronnie and his wife, Elizabeth; and her cherished niece, Sarah Springer Beadle.
Nancy will be deeply missed by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Herb Ballard; three children, Paul David and wife, Brittany Sweetin Ballard, Timothy and wife, Cryssi Smith Ballard, and Deborah Elizabeth Ballard; her sister, Beth and husband, Mickey Ashworth; brother, Bill and wife, Lana Springer; and her greatest source of pride and joy, her grandchildren, Brenna, David, Mason, Libby, Timmy, Blayne and Lakelynn Rose.
A devout follower of Christ, Nancy’s heart has always been filled with love, compassion, and selflessness. Blessed with a brilliant mind and unmatched determination, her achievements are nothing short of astonishing. As we say good-bye, we take comfort in the knowledge that she’s finally home, free from pain and sorrow, joyfully joined with her Savior in heaven.
