Mattie Mantooth Obituary

Mattie Lou Ashley - Mantooth

1938 -2019

Mattie was born October 6, 1938 in Paducah,Texas to her parents, Marie Estelle and Granville Odis Ashley.  Mattie was seen by her family as the absolute model for what a mother means.  She was not only an incredible mother to her own children, but she was seen as a mother to all.  She loved babies and was known to be the person who handed out candy or grapes to the children at church.  Her family and her church meant everything to Mattie.  They were her world and that was what defined her.  Mattie was quite a character, as she loved stuffed animals, birds, cute knick-knacks and feeding stray dogs.

Mattie is survived by her daughters, Jana Hicks and Mariena Dvorak and her husband, Victor.  Mattie leaves behind her son, David Mantooth and his wife, Tina.  Mattie will be greatly missed by all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Mattie leaves behind her brother-in-law, Theo Hairston, as well as,  many nieces, nephews and extended family members along with a plethora of close friends made over a life-time of generous love and support.

While Mattie's family is greatly saddened by their loss, they celebrate Mattie's new beginning in the Kingdom of Heaven.  They rejoice the fact that she is now re-united with her mother and father; her husband, Troy Eugene Mantooth; her son, Odis Gene Mantooth and her daughter-in-law, Becky Mantooth; her son-in-law, Keith Hicks; her sisters, Frances Watson and her husband, Stanley Watson; Shirley Hairston; Linda Altman and her husband, Weldon Altman.
