Margaret Ward Obituary

Margaret J. Ward

1944 - 2022

Margaret Jean Ward went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 6, 2022, in Arlington, Texas. She was born on June 29, 1944, to her parents, Charlie and Mary Lee (Kindle) Hannah in Grenada, Mississippi.

Margaret attended and graduated from Carrie Dotson High School in Grenada, Mississippi. She joined the school basketball team, and this is where her love and passion for basketball blossomed. She was devoted to her faith and attended Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Grenada, Mississippi. Margaret met her loving husband, Willie Glenn Ward, and married him on February 14, 1962. After a few years they decided to move to Gary, Indiana in 1969 to pursue greater opportunities. There they joined New Bethel Baptist Church.

Margaret spent most of her life dedicated to her beautiful family. She worked as a steel mill laborer and after all her hard work she purchased her first home. When her children were grown, she entered flea marketing to fulfill her entrepreneurial spirit.

Margaret enjoyed watching and attending basketball games from High School girls’ and boys’ games, College men and women, to NBA and WNBA games. She also loved cooking, baking, and thrift shopping. Margaret also enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling her children and grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mary Lee (Kindle) Hannah, and her older brothers, Roy Lee Hannah, Charlie Jr. Hannah, and James Eddie Hannah.

She will be deeply and lovingly missed by her older brother, J.T. Hannah; her younger sister, Mary (Hannah) Williams; her four children, Glenda Ward Cheatham, Garry Ward, Vanston Ward, and Brent Ward; her seven grandchildren, Maurice, Kristen, Christopher, Lyric, Jennifer, Tera Kaye, Alazne; and numerous loving great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
