L. Glenn Obituary

Launius Robert Glenn

1928 - 2022

Launius Robert Glenn was born on Friday, September 21,1928 in Wright City, Oklahoma to his parents, James Jefferson Glenn and Evelyn Maime Anderson-Glenn.  Launius grew up in the Glenn household with his brother and three sisters.  Launius was the second youngest of the children and they grew up together in Arkansas where they moved soon after he was born.  Launius Robert Glenn passed from this world on August 3, 2022, to re-join his family with his Lord and Savior in The Kingdom of Heaven.

Launius was born about a year before the Great Stock Market crash in September and October of 1929.  The location he was growing up in Arkansas was hit terribly hard by our Nation's economic downturn. His father, James, who knew mostly lumbering and sawmill operations and construction was in a great bind to find work.  He had to do much traveling to find work.

Launius' father was from a fairly sizeable family.  He had an uncle, Robert (older than his father, James) who had been a career US Navy Radioman.  Uncle Robert, who cared for his nephew Launius, when his father was away, was very instrumental in forming Launius' future career choices.

His Uncle Robert began teaching him radio electronics at quite a young age and Launius Robert enjoyed it very much.  By the time Launius was twelve years old, he had built his own ham radio and had learned the FCC required operator's code. Launius built a worthy enough two-way radio set and learned the FCC code well enough that he qualified for an FCC ham radio operators license at twelve.

Launius served in the Army/Air Force from October 1946 to August 1949 in the Pacific theater of World War II. His accomplishments in radio electronics up to that point earned him the opportunity to join the new Specialist ranks maintaining military RADAR facilities.  He was assigned to the Army/Air Force radar facility at the south end of the island of Okinawa. Launius earned rank quickly and was discharged, honorably, at the rank of Specialist Tech Sargent. (At one point, by the time he became a Sargent, was in charge of a team of eight men, four of who were higher ranking than him.  He answered to an Army Major who listened very carefully to Launius).  Launius studied Physics after the military as his major at the University of Houston and he went on to a long career in Electronics Engineering.

Launius was married in November 1954 to the love of his life, Cecelia Irene Rutkoski from Marlin, TX. Cecelia passed away on January 22, 2012, and is buried in Marlin, TX.  They raised seven children: James Glenn and his wife, Vanneary, David Glenn, Christopher Glenn, Susan Carson, Frances Green, Albert and his wife, Cecile Glenn and Charles and his wife, Maxine Glenn.  Launius has five grandchildren: Michael, Dewayne, Sonny, Cody, Crystal and Austin.

Launius retired from his own consulting business at 67.  He was living in Lewisville, TX from about 1995 until June 24, 2018. On June 25, 2018, he was admitted into Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation in Pilot Point, TX and was there until he passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 93 years old.
