Kenneth Haas Obituary

Kenneth Clyde Haas passed January 9, 2021. Ken was the son of Henry and Lilly Kirch Haas born on March 21, 1935 in Wellston, Oklahoma.

Ken graduated from Cleburne High School in 1953. After high school, Ken proudly served his country for three years in the Army, one of which stationed in Korea. Upon returning, he enrolled in college, and eventually met Betty on a blind date.  Ken and Betty married on August 8, 1959 and moved to Betty’s hometown of Azle in 1961. He continued his education, graduating from University of Texas- Arlington in 1965.

In Azle, he quickly became involved in the community. He was active in the First United Methodist Church-Azle and many civic and school organizations over the past sixty years. He served on the Azle City Council from 1968-1970 and on several Tarrant and Parker County business councils.

In 1976, Ken purchased Emanuel Lumber and Hardware from Betty’s family and it quickly became Azle’s go-to home improvement store. After retiring in 2003, Ken and Betty started traveling extensively, visiting all 50 states, and many foreign countries.

Ken loved life, his family and friends, and his adopted hometown of Azle.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Building Fund of First United Methodist of Azle.

A private funeral service will be held for Ken on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Haas; sons, Kevin Starr and wife Phong of Round Rock, Tony Haas and wife Kelley of Azle, and Doug Haas and wife Renee of Dallas; grandchildren, Lauren Wakefield (Kory), Kristen Haas-Huynh (Thien), Andrea Durkee (Craig), Henry Haas and Kate Haas along with four great-grandchildren.
