Visitation will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022, at Azle & Lake Worth Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with a Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 PM. Interment will be held at Azleland Cemetery & Memorial Park.
Higinio was born on September 13, 1956 in Houston, Texas to Higinio Pena, Sr. and Josephine Petroccini Pena. He proudly served his country for four years in the US Airforce as an aircraft maintenance specialist at the Carswell AFB. While serving, he received numerous commendations and was ranked Sergeant when honorably discharged in 1979. In 1981, Higinio not only began his life in Azle, Texas but also decided to join the US Army Reserves as a small weapons specialist. During his colorful career, he worked as a licensed electrician and later as an HVAC service manager. As a self-taught mechanical engineer and employing his specialized skills as a tool & die machinist, he then worked on the design, controls and build of robotic equipment. Higinio was known as a “Jack of All Trades” throughout his lifetime dating back to the age of 13 when he built his first car engine. He was a talented boxer and followed the sport closely. Higinio enjoyed grilling outdoors and cooking for his family and friends whenever he was able. Although he was not a practicing Catholic, he prayed each day and knew each talent was a blessing from God. He never failed to lend a helping hand when needed and would give the shirt off his back to anyone. Higinio was also known to love a good joke; his zany sense of humor and quick wit kept a smile on the faces of those in his presence. Higinio, or "Jr.", will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. His kind and generous nature will long be remembered, and his absence will be felt by all who knew him.
Higinio is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan Terry Pena; daughters, Savannah Pena Shannon of Benbrook, TX, and Candace Pena Diaz of Azle, TX; brothers, Ricardo Pena of Victorville, CA, and Alex Pena of Palestine,TX; sisters, Christina Pena of California and Maira Pena Gutierrez of Hesperia, CA; grandsons, Ethan, Kade, Austin, and Bodhi of Benbrook, TX; granddaughters, Sadie, Susanne, and Saylor of Azle, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
