Sue Doty, 70, of Monroe Michigan passed away peacefully November 5th, 2019 in Fort Worth Texas.  She is proceeded in death by her husband of 35 years, Robert L. Doty, father Harold A. Dusseau and many aunts, uncles and grandparents. She is survived by her children Robert W. “Beau” Doty and Leigh Barrera and “Granny” to Blake A. Miller, Jonathon D. Barrera, Tyler D. McCarty, Caleb L. Barrera, Joshua M. Barrera and Nisa Calbos. Sue was a loving mother who planted the seed and raised her children on the foundation of Jesus Christ. She loved to sew, cook, read Louis L’Amour western novels, and had a taste for fine coffee. She loved the title of being “Granny” and adored all her grandchildren. She was a financial accountant for many years, active in the Lutheran church and had a servant’s heart to volunteer and help others. She will be laid to rest with her husband Robert in Azle Texas.

My mother was born Diana Sue Dusseau on October 22, 1949 in Monroe Michigan. Her father Herold Arnold Dusseau whom they called “Beau” was active duty in the United States Army Air Corps. Because of his career she traveled around the country as an Army brat, even living in Hawaii for a few years as a little girl. At the age of 18 on March 1, 1968 she married my father Robert Lee Doty in his hometown of San Angelo Texas. There they would start a life of 35 years together. My father served 3 years in the military in the United States Airforce, and while stationed in Austin, my brother Beau was born on May 29, 1972. Seven years later here in Fort Worth I was born on July 12, 1979. My parents traveled around the DFW area due to my father’s career in customer service and ending at AT&T before passing away in July of 2003. In 1987 my mom and I were in a bad car wreck resulting in her having 3 major back and neck surgeries and bed ridden for nearly 2 years. Those are the scars that you see on her back, stomach and neck. In 2005 she had hip replacement surgery (scar on hip). She has suffered almost the last 30 years of legitimate back and hip pain of some sort.  Despite her pain and surgeries mom was a successful financial accountant before retiring around 2008. Mom briefly sold Mary Kay makeup and as the classy woman she was, she liked dressing up, smelling good, and putting her full make up on. She loves all things perfume and lotions that smell like gardenia, lavender or flowers. Her favorite color was purple. She listened to country and gospel music and was a coffee connoisseur and had a taste for fine red wine.  She was a wonderful loving nurturing mother. She raised us up in the church giving us the solid foundation of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. She taught as a Sunday school teacher and gave her time cooking and serving in the church. She had a true servant’s heart, never had an enemy, and always saw the best in people. Even though my older brother never had any children, I have given her 5 beautiful grandbabies (and 1 grand angel Caydon Blaine waiting for her in heaven) that she absolutely loved and adored. Her 5 grandboys (Blake, Jonathon, Tyler, Caleb, and Joshua) were her pride and joy and she talked about them every chance she got. She was the grandmother that always cooked their favorite meals anytime of the day and always had the best Christmas and birthdays ever! She was never to tired or busy for them and made sure they knew how much she loved them.

            Mother was finally diagnosed with Picks disease (aka frontal lobe dementia) in March of 2015. Frontal lobe dementia effects everything your frontal lobe controls such as fine motor, speech, facial expressions, depth perception, peripheral vision, decision making, and balance. She slowly started signs as early as 2013 with falls, word loss, and poor decisions but we had no idea her behavior wasn’t normal.  Her long-term memory is completely intact and can hear everything you say or do. So please treat her normal as she can understand everything. In most cases, people pass away as their bodies decompensate before their brain. In her case, her body is completely healthy will very little medical issues, however her brain is very sick. As her brain dies slowly, she loses connections and functions. Her last big losses have been in the past year with the use of her legs, speech, and left arm. She is a smart woman, and was completely normal at one time, so I give her the same respect as if she still is. Even though she appears to have had a stroke by the loss of her right side, MRI studies show she never has. She fell and broke her wrist in 2014, and due to the lack of using it in a sling, her brain had shut the connection off therefore no longer using it. She continued to decompensate from there. She was living alone until a major fall in 2017. After a hospitalization she came to live with me until another major fall in 2018. It was then decided I could no longer provide the level of care that she needed by myself so she this is how she ended up here at Fireside Lodge. Mom is a sweet gentle soul and one day she knows she will be reunited with Daddy and Jesus for eternity.
