Delbert Owen Obituary

In Loving Memory of Delbert Dwane Owen

1947 - 2024

Dwane was born on October 28, 1947 in Plainview, Texas to Arlien and Mamie Owen. He was at home surrounded by family as he passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 22, 2024 at the age of 76.

Dwane and his family were very close.  He was the beloved baby brother of Ken, Darlene, and his twin sister, Diana, whom he affectionately called Sissy.  Their family made many memories together as they traveled frequently and visited almost every state in their little travel trailer. They were also strong in their faith and very involved in their church.  Dwane learned  integrity and  a strong work ethic spending time with his dad building houses. He used these skills the rest of his life, building 2 houses for his family throughout the years and most recently crafting a beautiful coffee table, mantel, accent wall and many other updates for their current home.

As he grew older, he enjoyed flying airplanes and playing golf.

Dwane married his high school sweetheart, Barbara, on May 27, 1967.  They started going steady when they were 14 years old and married when they were both 19.  They shared their married lives together for almost 57 years.  They started a family on June 18, 1969 when their first child, Winnie Christine Owen was born.  Their second child, Amy Lois Owen, was born on February 23, 1972.  The family was complete when Lena Dean Owen was born on September 17, 1975.

Dwane worked as a court reporter for many years and established Metroplex Court Reporters with a friend in downtown Fort Worth before being called into full time ministry.  He graduated from Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas and went on to earn a master's degree at Southwestern Theological Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.  From there he earned his doctorate of ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.  Throughout his life, he touched many lives including his time spent teaching groups at Bethel Temple, founding and pastoring a church in White Settlement, ministering as a hospice chaplain, serving with White Settlement MInisterial Alliance, and during the last ten years pastoring a church group in their home.

Dwane is preceded in death by his parents, Arlien and Mamie Owen.

He will be deeply and lovingly missed by his wife, Barbara Owen; his three daughters, Christi Eldredge and husband, Rick, Amy Polvado and husband, Jody, and Lena Layer and husband, Mike; 6 grandchildren, Amanda, Jacob, Jonathan, Logan, Jamey, and Landon; 9 great grandchildren; his brother, sisters and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Texas Baptist Men or Moaz Israel as these ministries were very dear to Dwane’s heart.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Azleland Cemetery & Memorial Park beginning at 10:00 AM.
