Obituary

William Hubert Simpson Jr.

1935 - 2024

William Hubert Simpson, Jr. (aka Honey, Dad, Pepaw, Bill, Billy, Cat, Tom Cat)

88 years old, born in Greenville, South Carolina – died January 24, 2024.

After graduating high school, he joined the US AirForce in 1953 through 1957 and then was in the AirForce Reserve with a honorable discharge in 1962. Bill was stationed in Alaska, Oklahoma and finished up at Carswell AirForce base in Fort Worth. It was there he met his lifelong love and wife of 64 years, Carol. He was employed and retired by Bell Helicopter after 39 years working in numerous positions within the company.  He was an avid motorcycle rider and fierce competitor. He was a member of the Stump Jumpers Motorcycle club and helped promote and work the track at many Enduro and Motorcross races held at Mosier Valley Racetrack and numerous other places. Bill was well known in his day as one of the very best off-road racers around winning numerous overall honors at various motorcycle enduros and hill climbs throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.

The last 14 years he lived in Azle, Texas and did everything he loved, which consisted of continuing to ride motorcycles, thank goodness a smaller one (50cc Honda Motor Scooter), driving his tractor, planting his garden, playing with his great grandsons, taking care of and feeding horses, dogs and deer, working on anything mechanical and keeping everything running. He had daily discussions with family, friends and neighbors about Gods word and his blessings. He loved staying busy and was able to do so up until very recently.

He was a devoted Christian and was a long-time member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Hurst where he served as a Deacon in the church for many years.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Hubert Simpson; mother, Annie Mae Simpson; and sister, Ada Beth Pittman.

He will be deeply and lovingly missed by his wife, Carol Ann Simpson; daughter, Annette Fowler (aka Leroy) and husband, Bruce Fowler; daughter, Alice Flowers (aka Charley) and husband, Danny Flowers; grandchildren, Jennifer Gilbert and husband, Brandon Gilbert, Katlynn Freeman and husband, Kyle Freeman, Casey Worthington and husband, Briley Worthington, and Ciera Lynch and husband, Jace Lynch; great-grandchildren, Keller Ripple, Liam Lynch, McCrea Gilbert, Hayes Worthington and Callan Lynch; brother, Tommy Simpson and wife, Juanita; brother, Roger Simpson; sister, Shirley Stayanoff and husband, Nick Stayanoff; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bill had requested that in lieu of flowers he preferred a donation in his honor to a charity of your choice or to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital - stjude.org
