In Loving Memory of Wayne Herrington

1959 - 2025

Wayne Herrington, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully April 8th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. Born on November 9, 1959, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Leonard and June Herrington, Wayne was raised in a warm and faith-filled Baptist home that instilled in him strong values and an enduring love for family.

Wayne met the love of his life, Cathy, at their church when they were young adults. Their connection was immediate and undeniable. After just six months of dating, they married on November 16, 1979, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 45 wonderful years.

Wayne was the proud father of his son, Ryan Kirk Herrington. Ryan fondly remembers one particular day when his dad was teaching him how to drive—a nerve-wracking experience. With a trademark crooked smile, Wayne gently reassured his anxious son, saying, "Just keep it in between the lines." That moment, like so many others, exemplified Wayne's calming presence, wisdom, and sense of humor.

A man with a thirst for life, Wayne found his greatest joy outdoors. He and Cathy shared countless adventures camping all across Texas, fishing, hunting, and embracing everything nature had to offer. Whether building, fixing, or inventing something in his workshop, Wayne's creativity and independent spirit shone through. He worked in construction for many years and found great fulfillment in his work, always taking pride in the craftsmanship of his hands.

Of all the roles Wayne held, none was more cherished than being "Papa" to his grandsons. His love for Mathew Stonitsch, Jack Herrington, and Joseph McCullough was boundless, and he poured his heart into every moment with them.

Wayne is survived by his devoted wife, Cathy Herrington; his son, Ryan Kirk Herrington, and his wife Rachael; his grandsons Matthew, Jack, and Joseph; his sister Joy Hall and her husband Robert; and a large circle of extended family and friends who will deeply miss his humor, kindness, and the special light he brought into every room.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Leonard and June Herrington.

A public visitation will be held on Monday, April 14th at 1:00 PM at Azle & Lake Worth Funeral Home, located at 850 N. Cardinal Rd, Azle, Texas 76020.
