Souvanh Phoumsotha Rathasing
May 12, 1941 – June 21, 2025
With hearts full of sorrow, yet uplifted by the memory of a life so beautifully and lovingly lived, we announce the passing of our cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, Souvanh Phoumsotha Rathasing. Surrounded by the comfort of her home and family, she departed this world peacefully in Fort Worth, Texas, on June 21, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born on May 12, 1941, in the tranquil hills of Laos, Souvanh's life began in a place where tradition, spirituality, and family roots ran deep. These values became the very fabric of her being, shaping the woman who would later become a cornerstone of strength and compassion for all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her given name, Souvanh, meaning "heaven," was a fitting reflection of the gentle and graceful spirit she carried with her throughout her life.
In 1980, guided by faith, hope, and an unbreakable devotion to her family, Souvanh made the courageous journey across the world to the United States. She arrived with a heart full of dreams and a deep sense of purpose. With her came the rich cultural traditions of her Lao heritage, her enduring Buddhist faith, and a resilience that would become the foundation of a new life for her children and generations to come.
She was the proud and loving mother of five children: Buelung Rathasing, Khounchay Boutta, Sathith Sihrath, Somchith Rathasing, and Bandith Rathasing. To them, she was more than a mother—she was their compass, their comfort, and their constant. Her home was a sanctuary, alive with laughter, the delicious aromas of home-cooked meals, and the quiet reassurance of unconditional love. She lived simply, but richly—finding joy in the daily rhythms of family life and giving generously of herself in every way.
Souvanh was a woman of quiet strength and profound wisdom. She was a devout and lifelong follower of the Buddhist path, not only in belief but in daily practice. Her faith was visible in every act of kindness, every humble prayer, and every gesture of compassion. A devoted member of both the Saginaw Temple and Rockwell Temple, she served her community with reverence and joy. Whether assisting with temple events, preparing food offerings, or simply offering her presence and time, she lived her faith with grace and dignity.
But beyond her devotion and discipline, Souvanh carried within her a joyful, spirited soul. She loved to travel and relished every opportunity to celebrate life with family and friends. She especially looked forward to her visits to WinStar Casino, where she found lighthearted joy and laughter. Her presence could brighten any room—whether dancing at a gathering, sharing stories with loved ones, or holding her grandchildren close. She embraced life fully and lovingly, always savoring the beauty of the moment.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bouline Rathasing, who passed away on July 6, 1999. Their union was one of deep love, shared dreams, and unwavering support—a true partnership that laid the foundation for the strong, loving family they raised together. Though their time together on earth has passed, we take comfort in knowing that they are now reunited in eternal peace.
Souvanh leaves behind a legacy of love through her five children and eleven grandchildren. Each of them carries a piece of her—her kindness, her strength, her laughter, and her quiet wisdom. She sowed seeds of compassion and grace in all she did, and those seeds continue to grow and blossom in the lives of those she loved.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in every prayer whispered, every smile shared, and every act of love extended in her name. Her life was a beautiful testament to devotion, resilience, and joy—and we are all better for having been loved by her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, beginning at 9:00 AM, followed by a Buddhist funeral service at 10:00 AM. All services will be conducted at Azle & Lake Worth Funeral Home on the peaceful grounds of Azleland Cemetery, located at 850 N. Cardinal Road in Azle, Texas. The family warmly invites all who knew and loved Souvanh to join in this sacred time of remembrance, celebration, and farewell.
We honor her today with full hearts, grateful for her love, inspired by her strength, and comforted by the enduring legacy she leaves behind. May her soul be forever at peace, and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
