Shirley Marcelle Piper

Shirley Marcelle (Thomas) Piper of Fort Worth, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 21, 2026, in her hometown, surrounded by her loved ones, at the age of 81.

Shirley was born the youngest of five children in Runnels County, Texas, on June 4, 1945, to Jim Theodore and Lillie Mae (Pounds) Thomas. She grew up in San Angelo, TX, and attended the local schools there.

Shirley married William Henry Piper on November 15, 1961, in San Angelo, TX, and moved to Fort Worth, TX shortly after. Shirley and William had five children, four boys and one girl.

Shirley was a devoted wife and mother and eventually grandmother and great-grandmother. Although many more knew her as "Oma," her grandmother name turned nickname rather than Shirley. She had a servant's heart and always found a place to volunteer and give back. She was president of the PTA organizations at her children's schools and enjoyed serving there and at her local church. Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, collecting brooches, playing the piano, listening to music, crafting, camping, and being outdoors in God's creation, spending time with her friends and family, reading the Bible, going to church, and telling stories of yesteryear. She was always up for an adventure and never turned down an opportunity to explore somewhere new. She made even the most ordinary things seem special and knew how to make you feel like you were the most important one in the room. She always had an encouraging word and could turn any discussion into one with spiritual value.

Shirley first met Jesus at a tent revival when she was 3 years old- the revival preacher prayed, and her earache went away. She was saved a few years later and then spent the rest of her days serving Jesus and seeking Him with her whole heart. Her faith has now been made sight, and she has heard Him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

She is survived by her sons William Piper, Richard Piper, Kevin Piper, Bryan Piper, and her daughter Kimberly White and her husband James. A slew of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a brother, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be especially missed by her granddaughter Rene Wallace and husband Bryan and their children (Kate and Sofia), and grandson "Trey" James White III and his wife Britney.

She is preceded in death by her father, mother, two brothers, and one sister.

Shirley is an example of a life well lived. May we all serve Jesus with the dedication her life reflects.
