In Loving Memory of Royce Joe "Shorty" Payne

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Royce Joe Payne, lovingly known to everyone as "Shorty," who passed away on July 16, 2026, in Gun Barrel City, Texas, at the age of 59.

Shorty was born on February 13, 1967, in Dallas, Texas. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and loving partner whose greatest joy in life was caring for the people he loved. He loved unconditionally, had a heart of gold, and never hesitated to stand up for what he believed was right.

He was the son of the late Stella Louise Warren and Freddie Joe Warren. He is survived by his children Synobia, Sandi, Shawn, Siarra, and Sasha, his grandchildren Lanceden Arryan-Kane, Pepper Royce, Gracie, Brianna, Texas, Evie Jolee-Louise, and Ashley, and his longtime partner, Lisa Bryson, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A gifted welder by trade, Shorty spent much of his life building metal buildings. His strong work ethic, remarkable craftsmanship, and pride in his work earned the respect of everyone who knew him.

Shorty truly embraced life. He had a passion for dirt bikes and was well known for the incredible wheelies he could ride. He loved music and took great pride in his stereo systems. Whether he was turning up his favorite songs or spinning circles on the dance floor, he brought energy, laughter, and joy wherever he went.

To know Shorty was to love him. He was selfless beyond measure, making sacrifices every day to ensure the people he loved never went without. He was the kind of man others looked up to—not because he demanded respect, but because he earned it through his strength, generosity, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family and friends.

Shorty's legacy is one of hard work, kindness, and unconditional love. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, the memories he created and the lessons he taught will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
