In Loving Memory of Marjorie Strong

1963 - 2024

Marjorie (Margie) Strong, a devoted mother, proud veteran, and compassionate advocate for rescue animals, passed in her home on December 4, 2024, at the age of 61. She was born on November 23, 1963, on an Army base in Frankfurt, Germany, to Scott Perrella Sr. and Sarah Perrella. Although Margie's early years were spent overseas, her family returned to the United States when she was very young, and she grew up in Calhoun County, Alabama. Even though German was her first language, Margie quickly adapted to life in Alabama, where she attended school before enlisting in the U.S. Navy at 18. She proudly served as a Boatswain's Mate for 13 years. Her service took her through significant historical events, including Desert Storm and the Haitian Missile Crisis, which gave her a deep sense of pride in her military service. Margie and her daughter, Shannon, shared a love for traveling. The two went on countless adventures, often embarking on spontaneous road trips with only a full tank of gas and the open road ahead. These trips created some of Margie's most cherished memories. Margie also had a profound love for animals. She was passionate about rescuing and rehabilitating dogs, and over the years, many dogs found their way to her door. Among her beloved companions were Ollie, a Basset Hound she rescued from near death and nursed back to health, and Trouble, a mischievous German Shepherd mix who was her companion through some of the most difficult times in her life. Her work with rescue dogs was one of her life's greatest callings, and she dedicated herself to helping them find safety and love. Margie's three greatest achievements were her daughter, her service to her country, and her work with rescue animals. She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Finley, and Shannon's husband, Jarrod Finley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott Sr. and Sarah Perrella. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a local animal rescue organization in Margie's memory, honoring her lifelong dedication to animal welfare. Margie's warm heart, dedication to family, and love for animals will be remembered by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
