In Loving Memory of Lucretia Ann Parrish - Brooks
1962 - 2025
With hearts full of sorrow yet overflowing with gratitude for the beautiful life she lived, the family of Lucretia Ann Parrish-Brooks announces her peaceful passing on April 14, 2025, in Denton, Texas. A radiant soul marked by fierce love, unwavering faith, and a vibrant spirit, Lucretia left behind a legacy that will echo through generations.
Born on January 31, 1962, in Fort Worth, Texas, Lucretia was the treasured daughter of Leslie Parrish and Wanda Young-Parrish. One of many children in a bustling, loving household, Lucretia was raised in the warmth of deep family roots, where laughter, loyalty, and togetherness were the cornerstones of everyday life.
Lucretia was a spirited student at C.F. Brewer High School, where she graduated with pride. She was a dynamic member of the high school band. She was known for her lively nature and quick wit—a "spitfire" in the best sense of the word, never afraid to speak her mind or stand her ground.
Her heart found its match in Kenneth Brooks, a friend of her brothers and a familiar face who had once gone off to serve his country. When Kenneth returned from his military service, the two were drawn together by something deeper than chance—a destined connection. Their love blossomed, and after two years of courting, they were married on July 28, 1982. In a deeply meaningful gesture of faith, Lucretia and Kenneth, just weeks before they wed. They longed to begin their life with Christ at the center and did just that, establishing a foundation of love, faith, and family that would last a lifetime.
Lucretia worked with dedication and precision as a payroll administrator for the Tandy Corporation and RadioShack. She was admired by colleagues for her strong work ethic and organizational skill—attributes she carried with her into every facet of life.
But above all, Lucretia was a wife, mother, grandmother, and sister—roles she cherished with her whole heart. She and Kenneth welcomed a daughter Melissa in 1979 followed by their son Chris in 1983. Lucretia poured every ounce of her soul into raising her children. To Chris, she was Momma—his rock, his biggest supporter, his lifelong safe place. To Melissa, she was Mom—a guide, a source of strength, and an ever-present hand to hold.
She was the kind of mother who never missed a school event, who cheered the loudest at every game, and who made home a haven. Her love didn't stop at her children; when she became a grandmother, her joy multiplied. Her six beloved grandchildren—Hayley, Sierra, Garrett, Wyatt, Gage, and Kinsley—knew her as Nanny and Grandma. To them, she was warmth itself, their cheerleader, protector, and gentle warrior. In her eyes, the grandkids could do no wrong.
She shared endearing bond with her dog Bella. Bella wasn't just a pet—she was one of the kids.
Lucretia leaves behind the love of her life, her devoted husband of 43 years, Kenneth Brooks; her beloved daughter, Melissa Gordon, and husband Geremy; her treasured son, Chris Brooks, and wife Robin Denton-Brooks; and her six grandchildren who lit up her world: Hayley Craig, Sierra Craig, Garrett Gordon, Wyatt Brooks, Gage Gordon, and Kinsley Gordon.
She is also survived by her loving siblings: Larry Parrish and wife Donna, Linda Moore and husband Rich, Janet Berry, Sharon Ethridge, and Terry Parrish. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless dear friends.
Lucretia rejoins in heaven her beloved parents, Leslie and Wanda Parrish; and her brothers Gene Parrish, Kenneth Parrish, and Gary Parrish—no doubt embracing once more in the peace of eternal reunion.
A memorial service honoring the radiant life and legacy of Lucretia Ann Parrish-Brooks will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Azle Lake Worth Funeral Home.
