IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laura Ann
Stum
September 15, 1945 – February 23, 2025
Laura Ann Stum, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand nana, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025. Born in Madera, California to Barnie and Ina Goodell, Laura grew up in Sansom Park, Texas, alongside her siblings Florence, Ima Geane, and her late brother Oscar (Sonny).
Laura's life was defined by love—for her family, her friends, her work, and every stray animal that crossed her path. She married the love of her life, Richard Keith Stum, on April 16, 1966, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion.
Laura earned her associate's degree from Tarrant County College, attended the University of Texas at Arlington, and held a cosmetology license. She began her career as a beautician, a role that allowed her to be present while raising her children.
In 1976, Laura and Keith purchased Olsen's Distributing and Pro-Am Fishing Shop, where Laura's sharp business sense and extensive knowledge of tackle and bait earned her the respect of both distributors and loyal patrons. She led the business with dedication until her health no longer allowed, never one to fully retire from the work she loved. She will be deeply missed by their long-time employees.
Laura's passions extended beyond her career. She loved to dance, especially to the music of the 1950s and 1960s, with The Supremes holding a special place in her heart. Her daughter Cindy fondly remembers dancing with her mother—first standing on her feet as a child and later winning a New Year's Eve dance contest together by doing the Mashed Potato. Laura also found joy in Las Vegas, spending countless hours at the blackjack tables, where she made fast friends with dealers and pit bosses alike.
Family was Laura's greatest joy. She and Keith took their children on numerous adventures, flying their small plane across the western United States, visiting Red River, New Mexico, traveling to the Bahamas, and collecting beautiful furniture from trips to Mexico. She also had a talent for creating a warm and welcoming home, hosting holiday gatherings filled with love, laughter, and delicious meals. She was known for her hospitality, always opening her home to those in need of a place to stay or a little extra support.
Laura is survived by her devoted husband, Keith Stum; daughter Cindy Schmitz (husband Bill Schmitz); son Craig Stum (wife Rebecca Stum); grandchildren Jeff Schmitz (wife Crystal Schmitz), Ben Schmitz, and Matthew Stum; great-grandchildren Torbin, Elan, and Cordelia Schmitz; and sisters Florence Hamby (husband Jim Hamby) and Ima Geane Reaves. She also leaves behind countless beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
Laura's generosity, resilience, and boundless love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the countless stories her family and friends will continue to share in her honor.
Laura's life will be honored and celebrated with a memorial service on Saturday, March 1st at 2PM at Azle Funeral Chapel, located on the grounds of Azleland Cemetery.
