In Loving Memory of Julie Anne Shields
January 22, 1956 – May 11, 2025
Julie Anne Shields, a vibrant, loving, and unforgettable soul, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, in Azle, Texas, at the age of 69. Born on January 22, 1956, in Youngstown, Ohio, to George and Jeanette Dodd, Julie spent her early years in Ohio before moving to Fort Worth, Texas, where she was raised in a proud military household. Her father's service to this country was a source of deep pride throughout her life.
In the early 2000s, Julie made her home in Azle, Texas, where she built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Known for her fondness of horses and a knack for home projects (often involving the reluctant help of visiting family), Julie's energy was as boundless as her heart. Whether she was tending to her animals or finding new ways to improve her home, she was always in motion—often with a paintbrush in one hand and a plan in the other.
Julie was the life of every party. She had a big personality and an even bigger voice, especially when it came to karaoke. Her signature song, Harper Valley P.T.A. by Jeannie C. Riley, was performed with passion, flair, and word-perfect delivery—every single time. Her infectious laugh and fearless spirit left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know her.
Above all, Julie was a devoted mother and best friend to her only daughter, Ashley. Their bond was unbreakable, and her love extended unconditionally to her grandchildren, whom she adored as their proud and loving "Nena."
Julie is survived by her daughter Ashley and son-in-law Eric Hotchkin; her granddaughters Ashlynn, Kayla, Charlye, Lilly, and Emma; and her grandson Jackson. She is also survived by her niece Jill Bumgarner and husband Ray; great-nephews Spencer and Josh Bumgarner; her nephew David Ward and wife Melissa; and great-niece Madison Ward. She will be dearly missed by her many extended family members and friends, whose lives she touched with her joy, humor, and boundless love.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jeanette Dodd, and her sister, Janet Ward.
A memorial service celebrating Julie's life will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Azle & Lake Worth Funeral Home, 850 N. Cardinal Rd, Azle, TX 76020.
Julie's voice, laughter, and generous heart will echo in the memories of all who knew her. May she rest in peace, and may we carry her spirit with us always.
