Josephine Tijerina Flores
January 7, 1934 - June 12, 2024
Josephine Tijerina Flores, lovingly known as Josie, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 90. Josie was born on January 7, 1934, in Mexico, and her life's journey took her to the heart of Texas, where she grew up in the close-knit community of Coleman.
Josie was a woman of profound faith and deep spirituality. Her life was a living testimony to her love for Jesus Christ and her unwavering devotion to her Christian beliefs. She found solace, strength, and inspiration in the Holy Scriptures, spending countless hours reading the Bible and engaging in heartfelt prayer. Her faith was a guiding light, illuminating her path and providing a beacon of hope and comfort to her family and friends.
Beyond her spiritual pursuits, Josie had a passion for cooking that was both an art and a labor of love. Her kitchen was a sanctuary of warmth and joy, where the aromas of her homemade dishes mingled with laughter and storytelling. Josie's recipes were a treasured legacy, passed down through generations and shared at countless family gatherings. Whether it was her famous tamales, comforting soups, or delicious desserts, Josie's meals were more than sustenance; they were expressions of love and tradition that brought her family together.
Josie's heart was boundless, and her greatest joy came from her family. She was a nurturing and devoted mother to her children: Josie Flores Herrera, Stanley Flores, Pearl Flores, Barbara Flores, Christine Flores, Anita Flores and husband, Joe Flores, Mario Matin, Lola Fernandez and husband, Jesse, and James R. Hernandez. Her love and care extended to her siblings, Irma Chirez and Cornelia Flores, with whom she shared countless cherished memories.
Josie's legacy of love and devotion is carried on by her expansive family, which spans four generations. She was blessed with 38 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, and 37 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and nurtured. Her home was always open, a place where family gathered, stories were shared, and love was abundant. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide her family for generations to come.
In remembering Josie, we also honor those who preceded her in death: her cherished daughter, Lucy Flores; her beloved son, Ernest Flores; her granddaughter, Rita Flores; her great-granddaughter, Layla Fabila; her siblings, Lupe Tijerina, Chrispine Tijerina, Jacob Tijerina, Benny Tijerina, Carolina Tijerina, and Ester Tijerina; and her grandson, Jesse Fabila. Their memories are woven into the fabric of her life and will forever be held close by those who loved them.
Josie's life was a beautiful tapestry of faith, family, and love. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her kindness, her wisdom, and her unwavering support. She was a pillar of strength and a source of endless encouragement, always ready with a comforting word or a listening ear.
As we bid farewell to Josie, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure in the hearts of her family and friends. We find comfort in the belief that she is now at peace, reunited with her loved ones in the eternal embrace of her Lord and Savior.
Rest in peace, dear Josie. Your love and faith have left an indelible mark on our hearts.
