IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John
Polanco
November 21, 1954 – February 5, 2025
John Polanco, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud United States Marine, passed away on February 5, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 70. Born on November 21, 1954, in Big Spring, Texas, to his loving parents, Bernardo Polanco and Esperanza Vega-Polanco. John was a man whose life was defined by faith, dedication, and love for his family.
John spent part of his childhood in Corsicana, Texas, where he created cherished memories at the Corsicana State Home for Children. Raised in the Catholic faith, he carried the teachings of his religion throughout his life, using them as a moral compass in how he treated others—with kindness, respect, and integrity. His upbringing shaped him into a man of deep conviction, someone who could always be counted on for guidance and wisdom.
A proud graduate of Corsicana High School, John wasted no time in answering the call to serve his country. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California. He served his nation with honor and courage, embodying the values of discipline, resilience, and loyalty that remained with him long after his military service concluded. His time in the Marine Corps was a source of immense pride, and he carried that spirit of service throughout his life.
It was during his time in the Marine Corps Reserves that John met the love of his life, Senaida Renteria. Their love story was the kind found in storybooks—a whirlwind romance that began on a blind date in Odessa, Texas, in early 1981. Just a short time later, on March 27, 1982, they became husband and wife, embarking on a lifelong journey together. John and Senaida were more than just spouses; they were true partners in every sense. They did everything together, from fishing trips—where John would eagerly bait Senaida's hook, much to her amusement—to exploring estate sales, uncovering treasures, and making cherished memories along the way. Their love was steadfast, enduring, and filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering support for one another.
After his military service, John pursued a career as a machinist, a profession he mastered with remarkable skill and precision. With over 40 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, he was known for his meticulous craftsmanship, an unparalleled work ethic, and a deep sense of pride in a job well done. John was not only a machinist but a jack-of-all-trades—there was little he could not do. Whether it was fixing something around the house, tending to his lush garden, or creating something from nothing, his hands were gifted with the ability to build, repair, and nurture.
Family was the cornerstone of John's life. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. His grandchildren lovingly referred to him as "Grampa," a title he wore with pride and devotion. He was their biggest cheerleader, their wise mentor, and their steadfast protector. His love for family extended far beyond his immediate household—his bond with his nieces and nephews was just as strong, and he treated them as if they were his own.
John had a heart that knew no bounds, a keen sense of humor that could lighten any moment, and a generosity that knew no limits. He loved to host barbecues, filling the air with the delicious aroma of grilled meats while surrounded by those he cherished most. His green thumb was evident in his flourishing garden, a testament to his patience and nurturing spirit. He found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life—sharing a meal, telling stories, and making others smile.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Senaida Renteria-Polanco; his children, Veronica Marie Young and her husband Jared, John Polanco Jr. and his wife Chelsea, Eva Anna Barfield and her husband Christopher, and Christopher Jonathan Polanco and his wife Martina. He is also survived by his treasured grandchildren: Blake, Tyler, John Ray, Eli, Hunter, Michael, William, and Nathan. His sisters, Mary Ann Polanco and Sylvia Polanco along with Sylvia's companion Ray Vasquez, also mourn his passing, as do many extended family members and friends who were fortunate to know and love him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernardo Polanco and Esperanza Vega-Polanco, as well as his siblings, Jose Vega, Benny Polanco, Dora Garcia, and Jessie Polanco. Though he is no longer physically present, the love, wisdom, and laughter he shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A service to honor and celebrate John's life will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Azle Funeral Chapel, located on the grounds of Azleland Cemetery. A visitation will take place on Thursday, February 20, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, also at Azle Funeral Chapel. Following the funeral service, a committal service will be held at Azleland Cemetery, with a reception to follow in the chapel's reception hall.
John Polanco lived a life filled with love, faith, and service. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and devotion to family—an example for all to follow. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. Semper Fi, Marine. Rest in peace.
