John General Pennington, 78, went peacefully to be with the Lord on January 13, 2026, in Weatherford, Texas.
John was born on March 12, 1947, in Jennings, Louisiana, to Henry Clay Pennington and Bella Donna Prater. He was one of six children, preceded in death by his three brothers and two sisters, all of whom he now joins in eternal rest.
A proud patriot, John honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1971, working as a marine mechanic aboard the USS Tattnall (DDG-19). His service reflected his strong work ethic, mechanical skill, and deep sense of duty—qualities that defined his life both in uniform and beyond.
Following his military service, John spent many years working as a mechanic and truck driver, including with excavation companies and later driving open-road 18-wheelers, traveling highways across the country. His life’s journey took him to many places, but he ultimately made his home in Springtown, Texas, where he found peace and community.
John married his first wife, Barbara, and together they were blessed with three sons. Later in life, he married Delores, who preceded him in death. Family was the center of John’s world, and he took great pride in the generations that followed him.
He will be deeply and lovingly missed by his children:
John also leaves behind eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom cherished his steady presence, warm heart, and quiet strength.
John will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; a hardworking man; a faithful servant to his country; and a soul who trusted in the Lord. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he loved so well.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM at Boyd Cemetery.
