In remembrance of John Thomas Lawrence, born on April 17, 1941, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Elmer Eugene Lawrence and Billie Jean Shaw-Lawrence, who peacefully departed from this world on January 12, 2024, in Granbury, Texas. John was not merely a man but a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was rich with love and meaningful connections.
A man of faith, John embraced his Christian values and lived them out in his daily life. His devotion extended beyond family and friends to his community, where he made a lasting impact. John's spirit was brightened by his passion for music, evidenced by his joyful participation in his band. He found excitement in trips to the casino, savoring each moment of life's pleasures.
John's commitment to service was exemplified during his tenure as an ES sergeant in the army. His bravery earned him accolades, including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge. His honorable discharge marked the conclusion of a chapter where duty and honor were paramount.
Survived by his devoted wife, Dolores, and his sister, Jean Ann, John's legacy extends through his children Cheryl, Richie, Laura, Robert, as well as several stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and an extensive circle of loving friends. The void left by his passing is softened by the memories shared and the impact of his love on countless lives.
John was preceded in death by his daughter, Deanna, father Elmer, mother Billie, brother Edwin, wife Linda Jean, and sister Linda Sue. As we join together to celebrate John's life, a memorial service will be held on February 16, 2024, at 2 PM at the Azleland Funeral Home and Cemetery Chapel.
