February 11, 1956 - October 21, 2026
John Hendry was born on February 11, 1956, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and passed away on October 21, 2026, at the age of 70.
John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, reflecting his lifelong love for his country. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to the United States Postal Service, where he eventually retired. It was during his career with the Post Office that he met Cheri, who would become his loving life partner of more than 17 years.
John was a man who loved his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Those who knew him will remember his booming voice, laughter, and playful spirit. He enjoyed birthday celebrations, family dinners, holidays, painting parties, baptisms, and gatherings with loved ones. One particularly cherished memory was John playing Santa Claus for family and friends, bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
John leaves behind his daughters, Tracy Fedder and Tammie Mebs (Toby Mebs Sr.); his grandchildren, Kyle Robinson (Rachel), Sabrina Fedder-Hendry (Bobby), Toby Mebs Jr., and Zachary Fedder; and his great-grandchildren, Daniel Thomas-Hendry, Lyla Kovalik, and Caleb Kovalik.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, John Hendry; his son-in-law, Rick Fedder; his parents; and his brothers.
John also leaves behind his loving life partner, Cheri, and their beloved Maddie, along with his extended Texas family: Ruben (Rocío), Misty (Manny), Tricia, Mia, Maya, Ruben "Chopper," Sofia, Manny, Christopher, Jacob, Isaac, and Samantha.
Affectionately known as "Papa John" to many members of his Texas family, he became a cherished part of their lives and celebrations. For more than 17 years, John and Cheri shared a home, companionship, and countless memories. Through his prolonged illness, Cheri remained devoted to his care, offering love, comfort, and strength during his most difficult days.
Although his passing brings great sadness, there is comfort in knowing his suffering has come to an end. His memory will live on through the family he loved, the friendships he made, and the joyful moments they shared.
As Ecclesiastes reminds us, there is a season for everything - a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. May those who loved John find peace in the memories they cherish and comfort in the hope of eternity.
Rest in eternal peace, Papa John. You were loved, you will be missed, and you will never be forgotten.
A private family viewing was held on October 27, 2026, at Azle & Lake Worth Funeral Home. A military funeral service will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
