It is with deep sadness that I share Jeffrey DeCook, 58, of Azle, Texas, passed away August 8th 2026.
Jeffrey was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and spent his life doing what he loved—working with his hands, being on the water, and figuring out how things worked. He was a brilliant and incredibly talented boat mechanic. He could tinker, fix, build, and figure out just about anything.
Jeff was known for his goofy personality, his sense of humor, and his ability to make the people around him laugh. He loved boats, fishing, music, and spending time tinkering with whatever project happened to be in front of him. He also had a creative side and enjoyed painting and sketching. Whether he was working on a boat, fishing, listening to music, or creating something with his hands, Jeff found joy in the things he loved.
Above all, Jeff was a father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Katelynn DeCook (Jacob Briggs), his beloved granddaughter, Raelynn Briggs, his father, Bernard DeCook, his sister, Renee (Jimmy) Harrington, and his nieces, Amanda (Justin) Barrow and Laura (Josh) Morgan.
Jeff had a way of reminding everyone around him not to rush through life. Whenever there was something to be done, he would often say, “I got nothing but time,” or simply, “It’ll be there tomorrow.” Those words seem fitting now. They were Jeff’s way of saying that life didn’t always have to be hurried—that there was always another day, another project, another song, another fishing trip, another moment to enjoy.
He lived life in his own way—with a goofy sense of humor, a brilliant mind, creative hands, and a love for boats, fishing, music, art, and the people he cared about.
Though he is gone, his lessons, his laughter, his stories, and the things he taught those he loved will live on. And perhaps the greatest lesson he left behind was to slow down, enjoy the moment, and remember that ‘it’ll be there tomorrow’.
No funeral service will be held.
If you knew Jeff, please feel free to share a memory, photo, fishing story, boat story, or anything that reminds you of him. I’d love to have those memories to remember him
