Janett Lee Gilbert

It is with profound sadness and gentle reflection that we announce the passing of Janett Lee Ferguson Gilbert, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who departed this world on May 24, 2026, at the age of 81. Janett peacefully passed in her sleep at Green Oaks Nursing Facility in Arlington, Texas after a courageous battle with dementia.

Born on November 10, 1944, in Ft. Worth, Texas, Janett was the cherished daughter of Grover Cleveland Ferguson and Louise Jeanette Davis. Growing up in a loving and nurturing environment, she was the youngest sibling, alongside her sisters Martha Draper and Joyce Chaney, all of whom predeceased her.

Janett's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, resilience, and devotion. On February 12, 1965, she married the love of her life, Forest Wayne Gilbert, in their hometown of Ft. Worth. Tx. Together, they crafted a life in Grand Prairie, Tx. filled with warmth and understanding, celebrating 61 years of marriage-a testament to their enduring love and partnership.

Janett and Forest raised four remarkable daughters with compassion and care: April Lewis of Brooksville, Florida, Angela Gilbert of Grand Prairie, Tx, Shelly Gilbert of Terrell,Texas and the late Sheila Durst, who tragically predeceased her. Janett's nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she became a beacon of love and guidance to her grandchildren: Sheba Durst and Tyler Durst of Grand Prairie, TX, Mason Lewis (and his wife Kali Lewis)of Laconia, NH, Marissa Cantor (and her husband Adam Cantor) of Baltimore, MD, and Wendi Stanley unknown. Her legacy lives on in her great-grandchildren, Autumn Lewis and Maverick Lewis of Laconia, NH

A woman of quiet strength and boundless love, Janett cherished her family above all else. Her home was a sanctuary filled with laughter, the aroma of home-cooked meals, and the comforting presence of her gentle spirit. She was known for her generous heart, always ready to offer a listening ear, a warm hug, or a reassuring smile.

After her children began, school she entered the workforce working with Grand Prairie ISD at Adams middle school as a cafeteria worker. She later moved on to working at Sweetheart Manufacturer. Janett ended her career working as a secretary.

Janett's life was marked by simple pleasures and a profound appreciation for the beauty in everyday moments. Her family fondly remembers her love for gardening, where she found solace and joy amidst the blooms she lovingly tended. Her hands, ever busy with nurturing both plants and people, were a testament to her life of service and love.

In her life's journey, Janett was a devoted daughter, a supportive sister, a loving wife, and a proud mother, loving aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Her legacy is one of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family. She leaves behind a tapestry of memories that will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege to know her.

Janett is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Grover and Louise, her dear sisters, Martha and Joyce, and her cherished daughter, Sheila. She is survived by her devoted husband, Forest, her loving daughters, April, Angela, and Shelly, her adoring grandchildren, Sheba, Mason, Wendi, Tyler, and Marissa and her beloved great-grandchildren, Autumn and Maverick and several nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.

The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Janett's life at a memorial service to be held at a later date, where they will honor her memory and share in the joy of having been blessed by her presence.

As we bid farewell to Janett Lee Gilbert, we hold her in our hearts, comforted by the legacy of love she leaves behind. Her gentle spirit, unwavering love, and boundless kindness will continue to inspire us each day. Rest in peace, dear Janett, until we meet again.
