James Owen Woods
November 25, 1946 – June 10, 2026
James Owen Woods passed away peacefully at the age of 79.
Born on November 25, 1946, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, James lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a steady, quiet strength. He proudly served in the United States Army and the Air Force Reserves. He went on to build a career as an Aircraft Electrician at Tinker Airforce Base from which he retired after 30 years of service. After retiring from Tinker he worked for ARINC (Aeronautical Radio, Incorporated) for 5 years. His intelligence, skill, and strong work ethic earned the respect of those around him.
It was while working for Arinc that he survived a life altering injury. He was no longer able to work or do the things he loved. He was an example to all that knew him, rarely complaining of his loss of ability and the chronic pain that he dealt with every day for the rest of his life.
While James accomplished much throughout his life, the chapter that truly defined him began when he married the love of his life, Cynthia Quinton Woods on March 20, 2010 in Irving, TX. They built a partnership rooted in friendship, devotion, and genuine companionship. They adored one another and shared life's adventures side by side. Whether they were traveling, spending time with family and friends, or enjoying everyday moments together, he wanted nothing more than to be by her side. James was happiest simply being with Cindy.
James was a quiet man, but those who knew him well appreciated his sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous with his time, talents, and resources, always ready to lend a helping hand to someone in need. He found great satisfaction in serving others and did not seek recognition for his kindness.
He loved the simple pleasures of being outside, whether it was camping, taking a stroll, having dinner at the park or just sitting on the deck at home. He was a man of his word, dependable, steady, hardworking, ready to help and humble. He approached life with determination, courage and integrity, earning the admiration of friends, family, and colleagues alike. He was quick to express gratitude, rarely complained and was not known to speak ill of others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Otheetry Woods and Anna Joyce Votaw; and brothers Clayton Votaw and Robert Woods.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Cindy Woods; his children, Gina (Chris) Logan, John Woods, Carolyn Sam, Stephanie (Kelly) Mitchell and Elizabeth (Troy) Beals; Cindy’s children Aaron Foley, Jill (Tom) Bamrick, Teah (Josh) Nason, Scott Christie) Foley and Tyler (Ashley) Foley, sisters Donna Johnson and Eloise Frick, 32 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.
Though he will be deeply missed, those who loved James take comfort in the many memories they shared, the enduring impact of a life well lived, the example he set and knowing he is free from the physical pain of his injuries and mental struggles of dementia. His quiet strength, gentle humor, and loving heart will not be forgotten.
A memorial service celebrating James's life will be held on Saturday, June 27 at 11am.
