In Loving Memory of James Ira Hamilton Jr.
1930 - 2023
James Ira Hamilton, Jr. was born on December 11, 1930, in Silverton, Texas, to James Ira Hamilton Sr. and Nadine Kendrick-Hamilton. He departed this life on November 30, 2023, in Lewisville, Texas. James was preceded in death by both of his parents, his wives Charlene Reynolds and Liz Hamilton, his brothers Tommy and Leonard, and sisters Iris, Lucille, and Geraldine.
James dedicated most of his career to the newspaper industry, serving as an operator and machinist. Prior to that, he worked as an auto mechanic and later became the city foreman for Texas City, overseeing the city's vehicles. Alongside his brother Tommy, he co-owned Hamm's garage. He also worked for a period of time as a carpenter. He was an incredibly talented man who seemed almost limitless in his many talents.
A devoted father and husband, James was known for his commitment to family. He leaves behind a legacy carried on by his sons Rick and Terry, granddaughter Tonya Craddock, grandsons Richard, Johnny, and Jake Hamilton, granddaughter Rainbeau Davis, six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. His love extended to numerous extended family and friends.
James was an active member of the Optimist Club and a skilled dominoes player, earning the title of champion. During Hurricane Alicia, he selflessly operated pumps in Texas City, preventing the town from flooding. His love for animals, especially his dogs, was evident throughout his life.
In remembering James Ira Hamilton, Jr., we honor a man of resilience, dedication, and love—a pillar in both his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
James is survived by his children, John Lafleur and Debbie Lafleur, and his granddaughter, Amaya Lafleur.
