In Loving Memory of Homer Jack Whitt

Homer Jack Whitt, a beloved member of the Fort Worth community, passed away on December 1, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of athletic prowess, service, and cherished family memories.

Born on February 8, 1932, in Fort Worth, Texas, to H.J. and Villethy Whitt, Jack's life was marked by remarkable achievements and a deep love for sports and family. His journey began at Odessa High School, where his athletic talent shone brightly. Excelling in football, basketball, and baseball, Jack's passion for the latter sport saw him become a pivotal player in the 1950 state baseball championship team. His exceptional skills as a pitcher were recognized with a selection to the all-state team, and he proudly held the state record for consecutive strikeouts—an impressive 13 strikeouts in seven innings. His talent on the baseball diamond paved the way for a scholarship to Baylor University, further showcasing his dedication and love for the game. Post-education, Jack dutifully served in the Army, where his passion for baseball continued to thrive as a member of the Army baseball team until his honorable discharge. Transitioning to civilian life, Jack devoted himself to public service, becoming a Fort Worth firefighter—a role he embraced until his well-deserved retirement. Beyond his professional commitments, Jack found joy in exploring the open road, traveling in his motorhome, indulging in fishing adventures, and savoring every moment spent engaged in various sports activities. However, amidst his accomplishments and adventures, Jack treasured moments shared with his family above all else.

His love and devotion to his family were unwavering, creating cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Homer Jack Whitt will be remembered for his dedication, sportsmanship, and the warmth he brought to every gathering. His legacy of athleticism, service, and love will continue to inspire generations to come. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he so dutifully served.

Jack has been reunited with his parents; his wife, Myrna Whitt; and his brother, Jerry Whitt; in God's Eternal Kingdom.

He will be deeply and lovingly missed by his children, LeAnn Davenport and husband, Bill, and Lisa Talmage; grandchildren, Ashley Fields and spouse, Michael, T.J. Riddle and spouse, Amanda, and Dylan Talmage; great-grandchildren, Addison, Colin, Zoey, and Wyatt; and a host of extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Azle & Lake Worth Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 PM with a Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 PM. Interment will be rendered at Azleland Cemetery & Memorial Park.
