In Loving Memory of Glenda Sue Owen

1938 - 2024

Glenda Sue Owen, lovingly known as "Sue," passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, in Weatherford, Texas. Born on May 29, 1938, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Glenn Newton Neighbors and Cora Bell Farrell-Neighbors, Sue's life was a testament to faith, family, and resilience.

Raised in Parker County, Sue called the Reno, Texas, area home for her entire life. From a young age, she found her spiritual anchor at Walnut Creek Baptist Church, where she was baptized as a child. The church became a cornerstone for generations of her family, and Sue's steadfast faith in the Lord guided her every step. Her devotion was unwavering, and she served as a beacon of light to all who knew her.

Sue's journey through life was marked by her strength and independence. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly to put herself through nursing school, ensuring a bright future for her children. A dedicated nurse, Sue touched countless lives with her care and compassion. After retiring from nursing, she channeled her vivacious spirit into selling Mary Kay cosmetics, a role she pursued with unparalleled passion. Her enthusiasm for helping others feel beautiful was contagious, and she formed lasting friendships along the way.

In 1964, Sue met the love of her life, V.A. Owen, on a blind date that would forever change her life. As the story goes, V.A. took one look at her ankles and knew she was the woman he would marry. On September 15, 1966, they began a marriage that was more than a partnership; it was a lifelong friendship. V.A. embraced Sue's children as his own, and together, they raised their family in Poolville, TX for over 20 years before returning to Reno.

Sue's home was the heart of her family, a place of warmth and celebration. She was the ultimate hostess, renowned for her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether it was hosting the tour of homes or her legendary Fourth of July gatherings, Sue's knack for bringing people together was unmatched. She was a phenomenal cook, and her award-winning coconut cream pie and peach cobbler were so beloved that they were featured in a recipe book.

To her grandchildren, Sue was nothing short of extraordinary. She poured her heart into being their "Granny," creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Her love extended far beyond her family—she adored all children and found immense joy in their presence.

Always dressed to the nines, Sue carried herself with elegance and grace. She never left the house without looking her absolute best, reflecting her pride and self-respect. Her adventurous spirit led her and V.A. to explore the RV life, traveling to bluegrass festivals with their church friends. She delighted in simple joys like playing dominoes and chicken foot, often surrounded by laughter and good company.

In her final days, Sue was lovingly cared for by Arnold Smith, to whom the family extends their deepest gratitude for his kindness and dedication.

Sue leaves behind a legacy of love and faith. She is survived by her daughters: Donna Bell, Debbie Murphree, and Sandy Summarell and her husband, Randy. Her grandchildren, Andrea DeLack and husband Earl, Becky Bell, Allison Price-Brooks and husband Colby, Courtney Vaughan, Casey Vaughan, Justin Summarell and wife Ashley, and Nikole Weldon and husband Colby, were her pride and joy. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband V.A. Owen, and her brother Jerry Neighbors.
