In Loving Memory of Frances Judy Mitchell

1957 - 2024

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frances Judy Mitchell, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Born on August 4, 1957, in Pineville, Louisiana, to Lawrence Carraway Mitchell and Sarah Juanita Bryant, Frances was a true Louisiana girl through and through. She carried the spirit of her birthplace with her always, a proud product of the Bayou State, who later found her home in Azle, Texas.

Frances's faith was the bedrock upon which she built her life. Baptized at a young age in the Pentecostal faith, her relationship with God was a cornerstone of her strength and resilience. It was a strength that she passed down to her family, and it was her unwavering love for them that defined her life.

At the age of 16, Frances moved with her mother to Texas, but Louisiana never left her heart. Family was everything to Frances. She was the very best mother to her two sons, Donnie and Joseph, and her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds. Her spirit and energy shone brightest when she attended her boys' school events and football games. She cheered them on with a fierceness that only a mother could possess, and her pride in their accomplishments was immeasurable.

Frances was known for her culinary gifts, and her Louisiana-style cooking was second to none. From gumbo to jambalaya, her kitchen was always filled with the rich, comforting smells of home-cooked meals. Her love for her family was never more evident than when she was feeding them, making sure no one ever left her home hungry or without a smile on their face.

Her fierce love for her family was matched only by her protectiveness. She was the first to stand up for her loved ones, never shying away from defending them against anyone who might try to harm or interfere in their lives. Though she could be a force to reckon with, her family knew her as a woman with an enormous heart. Those who were fortunate enough to know her understood that, while she could be a bit of a pill at times, her kindness, warmth, and loyalty grew on you the more you knew her.

Frances had a directness about her, and she never hesitated to speak her mind. But that was part of what made her so unforgettable. Her no-nonsense attitude was balanced by a tenderness that only those closest to her could truly appreciate. She had an open-door policy; if you were part of her life, you were part of her family. And if you were family, you were loved unconditionally.

Frances is survived by her two sons, Donnie Mitchell, and Joseph Mitchell and his wife Brandy; her grandchildren, Randi Mitchell, Hannah Johnson, Cassidy Mitchell, Riley Mitchell, Kaycie Mitchell, Emaleigh Mitchell; her great grandchildren, Reagan, Whitney, Waylon, and Levi; her siblings, Anita, Lee, Ricky, and Sam; as well as numerous extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Carraway Mitchell and Sarah Juanita Bryant, and her beloved sister, Pammy Ramirez.

Frances's legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched with her boundless love, strength, and loyalty. She was the heart of her family, and her memory will be cherished forever.

A funeral service in her honor will be held on Friday, January 10. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a chapel service at 2:00 PM at Azleland Chapel. A committal service will take place afterward.

May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love and grace she gave so freely throughout her life.
