In Loving Memory of Floyd Gale Thomas

1941 - 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Floyd Gale Thomas, a beloved husband,
father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully left this world to be
with the Lord on November 24, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 83. Floyd Gale was
born on May 9, 1941, in Moyers, Oklahoma, to Floyd and Opal Thomas. He grew up in a warm
and loving home, where everyone called him Gale, alongside his six siblings, forming close
bonds that would last throughout his life. His strong family ties and faith in God shaped him into
the kind and devoted man he was.

Floyd's love for the outdoors began in his youth. Raised to hunt and fish, he developed a lifelong
passion for both. It was while he was sitting on a pond dam in rural Oklahoma fishing with
Pastor Buddy Keim, he prayed and gave his life to the Lord with a fishing pole in his hand. This
connection with the Creator and his creation formed the basis for a life of fellowship and
mentoring for his sons and friends in the outdoors. Floyd not only loved hunting and fishing, he
is remembered as the best by both of his sons and most that went into the field with him. Floyd
connected on a unique level with all animals but was particularly skilled at training bird dogs for
quail hunting. His favorite thing to do was hunt and fish Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado with
his family and friends; and that legacy has and will continue to endure for generations.

Floyd's relationship with his wife, Joan, was a love story decades in the making. Their families
were close-knit, and as children, they even "ate black-eyed peas out of the same bowl." They
dated for five years before marrying on March 8, 1963, in Tarrant County. Together, they spent
62 years building a life full of love, laughter, and devotion. Floyd's commitment to Joan was
unwavering, and he made a lifelong promise to care for her "no matter what", a promise he kept
to his very last breath.

Floyd and Joan raised two sons, Kirby and Keith, in a home filled with love and support. Floyd
was an ever-present figure in his children's lives, not only as a father but also as a coach, mentor,
and "bonus dad" to their friends. His sons describe him as a "compass for morality," a protector,
a provider, and a constant source of love and encouragement.

When Floyd's father passed away, he dedicated himself to offering wisdom, guidance, and
strength to his siblings, children, and grandchildren. He was a steady, loving figure to everyone
around him. His legacy of selflessness and devotion lives on through his five grandchildren, who
he spoiled and adored, and his great-grandchildren, whom he cherished with all his heart.

Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Joan Thomas; his sons, Kirby Thomas and wife Stacy, and
Keith Thomas and wife Sharon Estrada-Thomas; his grandchildren, Christopher Johnston and
wife Sasha, Lauren Thomas, Madison Thomas, Brooke Mooney and husband Kolton Mooney,
and Emily Thomas; his great-grandchildren, Asher and Grayson Johnston; his siblings, Mary
Etta Bollier, Shirley Pryor and husband Floyd Pryor, and Donnie Thomas and wife Martha; and
many extended family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Opal Thomas; his siblings, Bernice Jackson,
James (Buddy) Thomas, and Joyce Mullin; and many loved ones who await him in Heaven.
