Estha Darlene Acree

1950 - 2023

Darlene Acree passed to her Heavenly home on August 5, 2023, after a lengthy battle with chronic liver disease and liver cancer.  She was born Estha Darlene Acree on December 7, 1950 in Malvern, Arkansas, the third child of Imigene Bolin Acree and Sygle Woods "Woodie" Acree.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Donna Gail Dines and brother-in-law Randy Dines, life partner James Phipps, brother, Joel Acree and sister-in-law Kathy Whatley Acree, and brother-in-law Don Mathes.  She is survived by sons, Kevin Higgins and life partner, Misty Patterson,  Russell Higgins and life partner LaShawn Jackson; granddaughter, Makayla Higgins, four grandsons, Clinton Higgins, Trenton Higgins, Christopher Higgins, and Ryan Higgins;  sisters, Faye Murphree and husband David, Leanne Browning, Deana Mathes, and Robbie Jones and husband, Stephen; 13 nieces and nephews; an aunt and uncle in Arkansas, a host of cousins in Texas and Arkansas, and many good friends.

Darlene's family moved to Azle in July of 1955; she started school in Azle and graduated from Azle High School in 1969.   She has an associate degree from Tarrant County Community College, and retired from the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department in 2013.

Darlene loved life and wasn't one for sitting idle.  She enjoyed taking trips, both short and long, with friends and family, and especially trips with her sons and their families.  She will be remembered by those who loved her as a very caring and giving person.  She was not verbally demonstrative, but rather showed her love by always being ready to help others.  She did not criticize others and you rarely heard her complain.  She was fiercely independent and even in the last days of her illness she insisted on doing things for herself as much as possible, and kept on going to places that she had always enjoyed.  She particularly liked the  "Azle Opry" and seeing her friends there, and last attended a week before her passing.  She loved gospel music, and surely is enjoying it now in Heaven.

Visitation will be Monday, August 14, 2023, beginning at 8:30 am, at Azle & Lake Worth Funeral Home, 850 N. Cardinal Road, to be followed by a Celebration of her life at 10:00 am.; friends from the Azle Opry will be singing some of her favorite gospel songs.  Interment will follow at the Azleland Cemetery.
