In Loving Memory of Don LeRoy Shewmake Sr.

1943 - 2024

Don LeRoy Shewmake Sr., beloved father, grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away on November 3, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on September 17, 1943, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Winston Charles Shewmake and Margaret Ruth McBee, Don Sr. grew up in Azle, Texas, and spent much of his life devoted to his family, his faith, and his country.

A man of strong character and deep conviction, Don Sr. enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 3, 1965, and served with honor during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967. He was wounded in action, but his service and bravery remained a point of immense pride for him throughout his life. Don was a true patriot, always proud of his military career and the sacrifices he made for his country.

Don Sr. was baptized in 1985 and his faith in God became the cornerstone of his life. He devoted many years to the Pentecostal Church, where he served as an evangelist, spreading the gospel and offering support to communities wherever he went. No matter what challenges life threw his way, Don remained steadfast in his beliefs, quoting scripture and living with the kind of faith that inspired all who knew him.

As a father, Don Sr. was a pillar of strength and love for his children. He is survived by his daughter, Shylah Shewmake; his sons, Don L. Shewmake Jr., Glen Charles Shewmake, Kenneth Warren Shewmake, and Jacob Wilson Shewmake. Don Sr. was also the proud grandfather of Vanessa, Bradley, Aurora, Lucas, Jeremiah, Macy, and Kaylin, who will carry forward his legacy of love and faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Winston and Margaret Shewmake, and his brothers, Richard and Scott Shewmake.

Don Sr. was a kind-hearted man who lived by the values of service, love, and unwavering faith. His life touched the hearts of many, and his memory will live on in the countless lives he impacted through his service to his country, his church, and his family. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, courage, and compassion that will never be forgotten.

In honor of Don Sr.'s life and faith, a graveside service will be held Tuesday, 19 @ 2:00 PM on the grounds of Azleland Cemetery & Memorial Park located at 850 N. Cardinal Rd, Azle, TX, 76020.
