David Michael "Mike" Lawley passed away peacefully at his home with his beloved sister Sue Lawley by his side on March 31, 2025. Mike was born on January 20, 1948 in Lawton, Oklahoma to James Wilbur Lawley and Hazel Kinney Stewart Evans. He was the youngest of seven children. After graduating from Wichita Falls Senior High School in Wichita Falls, Texas, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1967 and served four valiant years on the U.S. Naval Aircraft Supercarrier "USS Constellation" from 1967-1971. On June 16, 1973 he married the love of his life, Chung Sun Pak. On January 14, 1979, they welcomed their only child, the beloved Lisa Beth Lawley.
Mike had a lot of outstanding qualities and abilities. He was a devoted and dedicated husband and father. He was also a very generous man to not only his family, but to friends, neighbors, coworkers and even to strangers. He was a man of faith and tried to live as morally as he could. He found joy in music and was a talented musician and singer. In addition, he was a gifted mechanic, handyman, and a skilled shoe repairman. He was also a recognized and awarded truck driver for Haliburton and trained numerous other truck drivers during his time there.
Mike was an extremely bright and honored U.S. Navy veteran who served his country proudly. In addition, Mike was very charming and extremely funny. He had a quick wit and could make you smile or laugh if you spent even just a few minutes of time with him. Mike was extremely intelligent, very well read and had a strong thirst for knowledge. He did things with honesty, integrity and passion.
Some of Mike's favorite hobbies were reading, fishing, carpentry and landscaping. His favorite book was the Holy Bible. His favorite movie was "Overboard" and his favorite television shows were "Gunsmoke" and "Perry Mason".
Mike is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Chung Sun Pak Lawley; his parents James Wilbur Lawley and Hazel Kinney Stewart Evans; his loving stepfather Clyde Evans; brothers Kenneth Eugene Lawley, James M. (Bim) Lawley, Colonel Fred Wayne Lawley and John S. Lawley Sr.; sister Mary Katherine Gibbons; brother-in-law Ronald Gibbons; sister-in-law Mary B. Lawley; nephews Jay Aaron Chadwick, Christopher Lawley and Dwaine Moredecai.
He is survived by his sister, Sue Lawley, Hooson Mathewson (Chung's twin sister), his beloved niece, Laura Barker Gonzales and her husband Raymond Gonzales, his special nephew, Don Mordecai as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and very special friends, Tommy & Leta Coleman, Jerry & Cindy Sparks and best friends Ray & Thao Nguyen. He will be truly missed and always remain in our hearts.
A private graveside memorial service was held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Azleland Cemetery (adjacent to Azle & Lake Worth Funeral Home) in Azle, Texas.
