Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Brian Ray McKay, who left this world on June 4, 2024, in Springtown, Texas, at the age of 55. Born on May 15, 1969, in Fort Worth, Texas, Brian was the cherished son of Shirley Carol Hodges. He was blessed to grow up on a sprawling 20-acre homestead in Reno, Texas, where his early years were filled with love, faith, and the boundless joy of nature.

Brian's roots ran deep in the community, attending Springtown schools throughout his childhood and high school years. His life took a beautiful turn in 1991 when he met the love of his life, Bridget. They were married a year later, and in the span of 11 months, they welcomed their first child, Megan, into their loving embrace. The McKay family soon blossomed, with Brian reveling in his roles as a devoted father and, later, an adoring grandfather. His pride in his family was apparent to all, as many remarked on the beauty and strength of their bond.

A man of many talents and remarkable intellect, Brian earned his livelihood as a truck driver and mechanic for the construction company RMR. His knack for fixing anything earned him the reputation of a true "jack of all trades." Whether it was tinkering with mechanical devices or tackling a new challenge, his problem-solving skills were unparalleled.

Brian's passions extended beyond his work. He was an ardent enthusiast of Texas culture, fervently supporting the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and every other local sports team. He found joy in the exhilarating noise and energy of tractor pulls and monster truck events, experiences he cherished sharing with his family. Fearless and adventurous, Brian had an affinity for heights, relishing the thrill of climbing tall structures, earning him the playful moniker of a "monkey."

At his core, Brian was a family man, devoted to his loved ones and his faith. His bond with his mother, Shirley, was particularly profound; he was truly a "mama's boy" who held her in the highest regard. His faith in the Lord and his gracious spirit were evident in every facet of his life, extending warmth and kindness to all who knew him.

Brian is survived by his beloved wife, Bridget McKay; his treasured children: Megan and her husband Jessy Ellis, Eric Simpson, Todd Bradley, and Chalisa and her husband James Sistrunk; his adored mother, Shirley Hodges; his devoted sister, Tonia, and her husband Joe Byrd. He also leaves behind 10 cherished grandchildren and a multitude of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

A graveside service to honor Brian's life will be held on Tuesday, June 18, at 10 AM at Azleland Cemetery in Azle, Texas. We invite all who knew him to join us in celebrating the life of a remarkable man who brought joy, love, and laughter to our lives.

In our hearts forever, Brian will be remembered as a dedicated husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and a man of unwavering faith and kindness.
