Obituary

Billy Ray Cook Sr. born on May 9, 1941, in the sunlit expanses of New Mexico, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, in Weatherford, Texas. He was the cherished son of the late Robert O. Cook and Bessie Pearl O'Daniel Cook.

Billy's journey through life was marked by love, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Charlene Cook, who proposed to him after just two months of dating, knowing he was the one. Their union, celebrated on August 18, 1973, was a testament to a love that grew stronger with each passing year.

Billy was a proud father to his sons, Billy Ray Cook Jr.  married to Sandy, and Rodney Cearley. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Donovan, Bobbie Jo, Cindy, and Kenney, who affectionately called him "Grandpa." He is also survived by his loving sister Donna, his nephew Gerald Cook, and many extended family members and friends who were touched by his generous spirit.

Billy's early years were spent in New Mexico, but he was primarily raised in Kansas before eventually setting roots in Texas. It was in Texas that he found his soulmate and built a life filled with love, family, and faith. Baptized at the age of 80 in Weatherford, Texas, Billy attended Bible study regularly, deepening his spiritual journey and sharing his faith with those around him.

An avid gardener, Billy had a green thumb that could bring any plant to life. His gardens were a source of pride and joy, reflecting his nurturing nature. He also had a passion for fishing, finding tranquility and excitement in the sport. A devoted fan of the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Cowboys, Billy's enthusiasm for basketball and football was contagious.

Billy's generosity was well-known; he was the kind of man who would give a stranger the shirt off his back. His heart was as big as Texas, and his kindness left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Bob and Gerald, and his sister Helen. Despite the losses, Billy's life was a testament to resilience and the enduring power of love.

A celebration of Billy's life will be held at Azleland Cemetery on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 10 AM. His family invites all who knew him to join in honoring a man whose life was a beacon of love, generosity, and unwavering faith.
