In Loving Memory of Benny Gene Mobley
1953 - 2025
Benny Gene Mobley, born March 2, 1953, to Billy Mobley and Edna Douglas in Modesto, California, passed away on February 28, 2025, in Springtown, Texas, at the age of 71. Benny's life was one of love, adventure, and quiet strength—a life well lived and deeply cherished by all who knew him.
Benny spent his early years in Modesto, California, where he developed a love for the natural beauty that surrounded him. His heart always found peace along the coast, in Yosemite's majestic vistas, and beneath the towering redwoods. As a young man, Benny had a zest for exploration, driving cross-country, immersing himself in new places and experiences. In the 1970s, Benny made the journey to Azle, Texas, and in 1985, he and his family moved to Springtown, where he would spend the rest of his days.
In 1983, Benny married Irene Bruce, the love of his life. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and a devotion to one another that lasted a lifetime. Benny was a dedicated and hardworking man, joining Hasty Equipment/Wayward Wind Ranch in 1984, where he worked until his retirement in 2005 as Ranch Foreman. His work ethic was unparalleled, but it was his love for the land, his family, and his work that truly defined him.
Benny was a man of many talents. He was a jack of all trades—hands-on and resourceful, always able to fix, build, or create whatever was needed. He loved history and had a deep appreciation for his roots, often sharing stories about his family history and the world around him with anyone who would listen. His passion for learning never waned, and he was a man whose wisdom extended far beyond his years.
In his later years, Benny became a homebody. He found joy in spending time in his yard, nurturing his space and making it a place of peace. Above all, he cherished his family. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he had a soft spot for them that was truly a gift. He often found himself in trouble for spoiling them—he could never say "no," especially to his grandson, Ryland. Their shared conversations about cars, history, and Benny's "crazy stories" will remain a fond memory for Ryland and all those who loved him.
Benny is survived by his loving wife, Irene Bruce; his daughters, Michelle Mobley-Lino and her husband Fernando Lino, Christi Vine and her partner Jay Jackson; his grandchildren, Ryland Lino, Ahannah Lino, Treyes Lino, Aidan Kendall, Eastan Driskill, and Tiffany Jackson. He is also survived by his half-siblings, Billy Mobley, Regina Powell, Michael Mobley, John Mobley, and Stacy Wutton.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dexter Mobley; his father, Billy Mobley; his mother, Edna Douglas; his stepfather, Weldon Cox; and his brother, John Mobley.
Benny will be remembered as a man of deep integrity, unwavering loyalty, and immense love. His legacy is one of kindness, hard work, and a true appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. A graveside service will be held in his honor on Friday, April 11th, at 2:00 PM at Azleland Cemetery & Memorial Park, located at 850 N. Cardinal Rd, Azle, Texas 76020.
May Benny Gene Mobley rest in peace, forever in our hearts.
