Alvis Ray Mitchell passed away on June 15, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born on July 3, 1946, to John "Jay" and Gladys Mitchell, Alvis grew up in White Settlement, Texas. It was there he met Carole Ballard at the local Dairy Queen, a meeting that led to a lifelong partnership. The couple married on March 11, 1967, and settled in Azle in 1971, where they shared their lives together for over five decades.
Alvis was a master mechanic and entrepreneur who owned and operated several businesses throughout his career, including a full-service Exxon station, a Texaco station, and a transport business. His dedication to hard work and craftsmanship left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Alvis faced heart disease with strength and determination for 45 years. Despite the challenges, he continued to live a life filled with adventure, laughter, and love. At the time of his passing, Alvis and Carole had recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Alvis is survived by his beloved spouse, Carole Mitchell; children John Mitchell and wife Trina, Donald Mitchell and wife Me'chelle, Cindy Byrd and husband Kevin, and Melinda Hormann and husband Ryane; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John "Jay" and Gladys Mitchell; sister Patricia Fitzgerald; and brothers Jerry Mitchell and Rick Mitchell.
His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the community he served. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
