Dona Jean Hurley

1957 - 2024

Dona Jean Irving Hurley, a beacon of love and strength, graced this world on October 3, 1957, in Long Island, New York, to her devoted parents, Emil and Midge Flarity Irving. Her radiant spirit departed this world on April 1, 2024, in Weatherford, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, boundless love, and selfless service. Dona's life, marked by resilience and compassion, touched the hearts of all who knew her.

From her humble beginnings in Long Island to her eventual settlement in Dallas, Texas, in 1992, Dona's journey was one of unwavering dedication to her family and her faith. Raised in a devout Catholic household, Dona found solace and strength in her religious convictions, which she imparted to her children and grandchildren, shaping their lives with love and godly values.

Dona's commitment to service began after she graduated from high school at the age of 16. At 18, she answered the call to serve her country by joining the US Army, where she served with honor as a Military Police Officer. Her time in the military instilled in her a sense of duty and discipline that would shape her approach to life's challenges.

Following her military service, Dona embarked on a career path that showcased her formidable leadership skills. As a manager of various businesses, she demonstrated a rare blend of professionalism and compassion, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and employees alike.

Yet, it was in her role as a mother and grandmother that Dona truly shone. Her unwavering love and devotion to her family were the cornerstones of her life. Renowned for her culinary talents, Dona delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones, creating cherished traditions centered around her signature dishes like shepherd's pie and lasagna.

Beyond her culinary prowess, Dona's generosity knew no bounds. She welcomed anyone in need into her home, offering comfort, shelter, and support without hesitation. Her mantra, "you cut one of us, we all bleed," encapsulated her deep-seated belief in the interconnectedness of humanity and the importance of standing together in times of need.

Dona leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She is survived by her beloved children: Rusty Hurley and his wife, Ashley; Laine McGregor; Eddie Hurley and his wife, Leah; Zachary Hurley; Kristopher Hurley and his fiancé, Kallie; and her daughter, Alisha Hurley, and her husband, Jason. Additionally, she leaves behind 15 cherished grandchildren, each a testament to her boundless love and devotion.

Dona's bond with her grandchildren was unparalleled; they meant everything to her, and she meant everything to them. She shared a special closeness with her granddaughter, so profound was their connection that they shared the same bed and bedroom every single night, a testament to the depth of their bond and the immense joy they brought to each other's lives.

In addition to her loving family, Dona is survived by her sister, Patty Nelson, and brother, Arthur Pierce. She was preceded in death by both her parents, Emil and Midge Flarity Irving, and her father-in-law, Burl Hurley Sr.
